Badal pleads to name Amritsar and Mohali airports after Guru Ram Dass and Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Amritsar: Punjab Chief Minister. Parkash Singh Badal Wednesday asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India (GoI) to name the International Airport at Amritsar after Sri Guru Ram Dass ji and Mohali International Airport after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh in view of the sentiments of the people of Punjab.
While addressing the gathering, Badal raised this issue with Union Minister for Civil Aviation Mr. Praful Patel here at Rajasansi International Airport on the occasion of the inauguration of Integrated Terminal Building and said that he had already impressed upon the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and has had also taken up this issue several times with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had already approved the setting up of two flying academies one at Talwandi Sabo and another at Faridkot to train our youth in flying which had now become a lucrative profession. He also sought financial and technical support from the ministry of civil aviation to establish a world class university of civil aviation in Punjab and urged Mr. Patel to send a delegation of senior officers from the Ministry of Civil Aviation to visit few Civil Aviation Universities of international repute to study the structure and pattern to establish University in the state.
Referring to the cancelled international flights of Air India from Rajasansi airport, the Chief Minister urged Mr. Patel to restore the previous schedule and frequency of these flights in view of the heavy influx of approximately 1.5 lakh devotees daily who visit Amritsar to pay obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib and other religious and historic places.
