Pune: Airport Authority of India (AAI), Pune director G Chandramouli said that security at the Air Force governed Lohegaon airport has been beefed up as per Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines in view of recent threat to the Pune commissionerate and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Interacting with Sakaal Times here on Tuesday, he said, “As a precautionary measure, makeshift sandbag fortifications have been erected in several places around the facility. In addition, Central Industry Security Force (CISF) personnel have been directed to maintain a close vigil to spot any suspicious vehicular and passenger movements”.
Chandramouli said that AAI is developing a new parking facility of two acres each for cars and two-wheelers opposite the airport premises. The AAI holds regular monthly security review meetings attended by police, CISF and airline officials, he said.
He said the airport was equipped to contain and prevent basic alert and threat situations. But it is not in a position to handle hijack situations, as there is a requirement of components including the National Security Guards (NSG) to neutralise such developments.
