Drunken brawl at Thiruvananthapuram Airport: Probe handed over to AC, DCRB

Thiruvananthapuram: The investigation into the drunken brawl at the Thiruvananthapuram Airport has been taken off the Valiyathura police.
The investigation is being handed over to Assistant Commissioner of District Crime Records Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram City, Sheraffudin.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) commandant at the Airport, K.C.S.Rai had given a petition to DGP Jacob Punnoose on Tuesday pointing out serious lapses on the part of the local police in framing appropriate charges against the two passengers who created drunken brawl at the airport on Saturday.
The DGP had sought an explanation from Sanghumugham Assistant Commissioner Sanal Kumar, who had been supervising the investigation, following which the investigation was shifted, it is learnt.
Sources said that non-bailable charges may be framed against the accused, Madathil Reghu of Kollam and Egypt-born UK citizen Ahamed Mohammed. In that case, they would have to be arrested. Both of them are now learnt to be in Kollam and are expected to return to Abu Dhabi by weekend.
The CISF commandant’s petition said that the two passengers had created a drunken brawl and had beaten up and threw down CISF shift-in-charge Subratho Chatterji and two other CISF officials, besides other officials and passengers, including women, inside the airport. But the FIR neither mentioned that the CISF officials were beaten up nor that they caused obstruction of duty.
