Feasibility study for Idukki airport

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a new airport in Idukki, the fifth in the state, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan informed the assembly today.
In a written reply to Adooor Prakash of the Congress, he said the government had deputed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct the study for which Rs 3.43 lakh had been earmarked.
However, neither the government had formed any company for the purpose nor had any partnership for the project, he added.
Clarifying the government had not deputed any company for preparing the project report, he said the AAI had not started the feasibility study so far.
To another question from K K Shylaja Teacher CPI (M), the chief minister said the government had issued a notification for acquiring 2,200 acres of land through fast track system for the proposed Kannur Airport.The government had acquired 192.18 acre of land already, he said, adding steps for acquiring 1091.18 acre of land were in the final stages. Achuthanandan said the government had authorised KINFRA for acquiring land for the purpose. It had given a guarantee to KINFRA for obtaining a loan of Rs 250 crore.
