Mysore Airport to begin operations by year end

Mysore: Operations at the upgraded Mysore Airport at Mandakalli, on the outskirts of Mysore city, will begin by year-end, Lok Sabha Member, C H Vijayashankar said recently. Talking to newspersons in the city, after inspecting the Rs 70 crore upgradation work and a review meeting of the stakeholders, he said the terminal building, which could accommodate 150 persons and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, would be ready by March-end 2009. Subramanya, AGM of National Building Construction Corporation, the company which is entrusted with the construction work, said the work on terminal building and ATC was nearing completion and it would be handed over to Airports Authority of India (AAI) by next month-end. The airstrip had been completed last year, said a UNI report.
. Rajiv Gupta In- charge, Mysore Airport, AAI said once the terminal building and ATC tower was completed, the DGCA authorities would inspect it and give green single for operations. The process was expected to be completed by May end this year. The runway could accommodate landing of medium-sized aircraft like Airbus 320 and Boeing 737, he added.
