Navy has given more than required for Dabolim airport: Mehta

Panaji: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta on Thursday said the Indian Navy had given all support needed to expand the existing Goa airport at Dabolim, which is a naval base.
"We have done whatever is humanely possible. We have given more than what is required," the Admiral said on the sidelines of function organised to hand over sailing yatch 'Mhadei' to the Indian Navy here.
"Indian Navy is for nation and for the state of Goa too," he said referring to the controversy surrounding the expansion of Dabolim airport.
The Indian Navy which has its base at Dabolim and is maintaining it since Goa's liberation in 1961, was accused of obstructing a Rs 500 crore expansion project of the airport.
The need for expansion was felt as air traffic has increased manifold in this coastal state.
