Mangalore: The new integrated terminal building of the Airports Authority of India at Kenjar is expected to be ready by March-end. "As per a memorandum of understanding signed by the Airports Authority of India with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, the construction should be completed by March-end, and we will meet that deadline," director of the airport M.R. Vasudeva told The Hindu.
"The 47,000-sq.m apron (parking stands for aircraft) is ready. It can accommodate five aircraft at a time. The apron has been connected to the runway through a taxi way," he said.
About 80 per cent work on the construction of air-conditioned car parking facility had been completed. It had seven escalators. The security hold areas, where passengers could wait for their aircraft to arrive, after completing the checking formalities, would be in the first floor. The arrival and departure halls would be on the ground floor. There would be separate counters for different airlines in the ground floor. In addition, there would be commercial facilities, customs and immigration facilities in the ground floor.
