Patna: Bihar is all set to get the services of yet another airlines in the next few months. The low-cost ZAV airlines has decided to link the state capital with Ranchi and Kolkata with its flights on the Kolkata-Ranchi-Patna route.
The airlines has already received director general of civil aviation (DGCA) licence as a regional operator for east and north-east region. After opening its office at Ranchi sometime back, ZAV airlines recently got space for opening its office at the city's Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport and the said office is likely to become functional by the mid of March.
"In all likelihood, our flights would become operational from May this year," ZAV chairman Kishore Zaveri told TOI over phone from Kolkata.
The airlines has entered into agreement with Bombardier, Canada, for purchase of one CRJ 700 and two CRJ 900 aircrafts. While CRJ 700 is a 70-seater aircraft, CRJ 900 has the capacity to seat 80 passengers.
He said that the aircrafts were expected to reach India sometime towards the end of April. "As soon as we get the aircrafts, application would be filed for getting flight slots to the authorities concerned," the ZAV airlines chairman added.
Sharing the future plans of the airlines, Zaveri said, "To begin with only one flight would be introduced on the Kolkata-Ranchi-Patna route and once all the three aircrafts would be available, separate flights on Ranchi-Patna-Ranchi route would be introduced."
Incidentally, the ZAV airlines has also decided to provide choppers on hire service and has entered into an agreement with another Canadian firm for purchase of two choppers.
