Greenfield airport at Ludhiana likely

New Delhi : A new greenfield airport near Ludhiana is likely to come up in the next few years, with the Ministries of Defence and Civil Aviation granting preliminary clearance to Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd (BAPL), which plans to start construction by the year end.
"We have received clearances from the two Ministries for the greenfield airport project. ...We will complete the techno-economic feasibility study in the next four to six months," BAPL Director Raj Shekhar Agrawal told PTI here.
About Rs 2,000 crores would be spent on the first phase of the project, including constructing the airport and land acquisition. Additional costs would be incurred in the second stage, he said.
Agrawal said the feasibility study for Ludhiana airport would be completed expeditiously so that the final clearances could be received by September.
