The Red Bull Paper Wings 2009 finals held at the departure lounge of HAL airport here.
The competition, which was exclusively for college students, saw them testing their aerodynamics skills as they send their paper airplanes flying to compete in three categories — ‘longest distance’, ‘longest airtime’ and ‘aerobatics’.
The Paper Wings competition, which has come to India for the first time at the qualifying rounds held in the last couple of months, saw around 150 students participating on an average in the five cities that it was conducted in -- New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
At the finals, Karan Shah of Poddar College, Mumbai, Ryan Gibbs of St Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore and Bipin Chinnappa were declared winners in the longest distance, longest airtime and aerobatics category, respectively. The winners who excelled in their categories will see themselves on a real plane to Austria in May 2009 and represent India at the finals at Hanger 7 on the Salzburg airport runway at Red Bull Paper Wings 2009 World finals.
