IAAI to hold AGM on March 21-22 in Kochi

Kochi: IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) has decided to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from March 21-22, 2009 at Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary near Kochi, Kerala. The meeting is expected to be attended by 200 members and the media, informed Biji Eapen, President, IAAI. The meeting is also seen as a celebration of the victory of IAAI in achieving three per cent commission on gross fares from Indian carriers, on behalf of Joint Council of Travel Associations.
Talking about the agenda of the AGM, Eapen informed that Agency Programme Joint Council (APJC-India) should be immediately reconstituted to include two representatives from each of the three national travel trade associations (IAAI, TAFI and TAAI). Currently, the Council has agency representation from TAAI and TAFI only. The main idea behind reconstituting APJC-India is to ensure transparency in the Council’s actions for the benefit of travel agents. The Council is a 14-member trade body, with equal representation of airlines and travel agents associations, functioning under the IATA framework to control and maintain transparency in the airline and agent relationship covering financial criteria, staff competency and retention. Eapen further added that IAAI members at the AGM will put forth several issues pending with airlines and bring to fore some other matters which need attention of Government of India (GoI).
Recently, IAAI sent an official letter demanding legitimate commission from Singapore Airlines (SQ) and SilkAir to the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong and several dignitaries in Singapore. IAAI has demanded, in the official letter, legitimate commission from Singapore Airlines.
