Pvt contractor at Mumbai airport moves HC against BCAS

Mumbai: A private contractor at the international airport here, today moved the Bombay High Court against what it termed was the"abrupt"discontinuation of its service by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
The contractor, Akbar Travels, which provides vehicles for ferrying passengers inside the airport to national carrier Air India, was asked to discontinue by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on February 27 and it claimed the move has led to"chaos".
The reason given was an"adverse security report", said Janak Dwarkadas, lawyer for Akbar Travels.
BCAS, which comes under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, lays down security norms and monitors their implementation.
No lawyer from BCAS was present, so Division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice D Y Chandrachud have adjourned case till tomorrow, directing BCAS and the Civil Aviation Ministry to keep their lawyer present in court.
