Thiruvananthapuram : The services of Akbar Travels at the airports in the country, including the three in the State, have been terminated owing to security reasons.
According to highly placed sources, all the activities of the private travel agency in the terminal building of all airports, including the ground handling activities, have been terminated as per the instruction of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The Swagat Seva passenger facilitation services being operated by the travel agency in the airports have also been stopped.
The BCAS had acted on the basis of an adverse report given by the Intelligence Bureau against the firm, it is learnt.
Akbar Travels had been engaged for ground handling services in many major airports including the Chennai and Mumbai airports.
The main activity of the agency was to transport passengers between the terminal and the aircraft.
Various other services being offered by Akbar Travels at the airports including reservation, call taxi and passenger reservation would not be affected, sources said. Officials of Akbar Travels were not available for comments. But, it is learnt that the firm had moved the Mumbai High Court against the BCAS decision.
