‘Casual’ days over for immigration officials? Airport strives for uniformity

New Delhi You may soon see immigration officials at the Delhi airport in uniform. The government, it is learnt, is working on a proposal for the officials to follow a ‘dress code’, like all other airport staff. Following a suggestion by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given ‘in-principle’ approval to the proposal, claim DIAL officials.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB), which is the administrative agency for immigration-related matters, too is seeking an approval to its proposal to float a single-party tender with M/s Raymond, which will come up with the uniform. At a recent meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar on airport-related matters, the MHA informed him of the development.
According to official sources, the proposed dress code will see immigration officials at all metro airports sport light blue shirts and gray trousers with a black tie.A senior ministry official said the proposal of the DIAL — and that of the IB too — was under consideration.
“The DIAL’s objective is to bring about uniformity within the airport premises. All other airport staff, including CISF, airlines, customs and ground handlers, follow a dress code,” said a senior DIAL official who did not wish to be named.
The officials said DIAL was keen to have the matter expedited so that the dress code could be implemented at the earliest.
