Paramount spreads wings to eastern India

Chennai-based Paramount Airways, which has over 27 per cent share in the southern market and has made its presence felt in the western region, is now spreading its wings in eastern and northern India. It also plans to go international on completion of five years of its operations, that is, post-2011, said M Thiagarajan, managing birector, Paramount Airways, on Monday, who was here to flag off Paramount Airways’ daily flights from Kolkata.
“In the current financial year and the next we will concentrate on introducing flights in eastern and northern India. We had wanted to start the operation on April 22, but the directorate general of civil aviation asked us to operate from April 27,” he said. The airline has also connected Guwahati and Agartala with Chennai via Kolkata.
“We are here following requests from West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and are planning to launch flights to Coochbehar, Varanasi, Ranchi, besides several other destinations in the north-east from Kolkata. The next in line is north India,” Thiagarajan added. He said that passengers from Kolkata would be able to fly to southern destinations such as Madurai, Coimbatore, Kochi among other by taking a connecting Paramount flight from Chennai.
“When some of our peers are busy launching low-cost budget airlines, we launched our premium flights and have done reasonably well. The new routes that we are introducing will focus on business travellers and high-end tourists”, said Thiagarajan.
