Soon fliers would know their fare details before hand

New Delhi: To remove ambiguity in airfare structure, the Civil Aviation Ministry today cleared the proposal for mandatory quoting of all-inclusive fares by the Indian airlines.
However, a notification in this regard is yet to be issued. After the notification, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) would write to all carriers asking them to comply with the directive, official sources said.
To date, air carriers have been quoting only the basic fare while bracketing all other costs in airfares, including fuel surcharge and passenger service fee, as part of the tax.
The Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel had recently said that by showing the charges as 'taxes', "the air operators try to give an impression that the major portion of the airfare is pocketed by the government". This was wrong and misleading, he had said.
