Technical snag at Mumbai airport troubles passengers

Mumbai: A technical snag at the Santacruz terminal of Mumbai airport, on Friday, caused inconvenience to visitors for an hour. The inconvenience was due to the flight information display system (FIDS) breaking down. According to airport sources, this has been happening since a new contractor took over the maintenance of the system two days ago. However, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) says that the technical problem was quickly rectified.
On April 3 at 9.45pm, Avinash Chaddha, 42, a businessman from Kandivili reached terminal 1A of Mumbai airport to receive his wife who was to come by an Air India flight from Chennai. "When I reached the terminal building, I found that the screens displaying flight arrival were not working," says Chaddha."The flight was 20 minutes late and there was no way to know it," he says.
According to an airport source, a similar occurrence took place on Thursday evening too."The contract of the company that was maintaining FIDS expired two days back and a new contractor took over.Since the company is new on the job, it has not been able to maintain the system properly," he says.
