United Airways (BD) Ltd. a leading private sector airline founded by non-resident Bangladeshis, started its maiden Chittagong-Kolkata passenger flight on March 30, a press release said.
The first Chittagong-Kolkata flight of the airline left Chittagong for Kolkata on Monday afternoon with a 37-seat Dash 8-100, which is a Canadian built aircraft equipped with the latest aviation technologies and navigation equipment.
United Airways has been designated to operate international flights to various countries by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. It will initially operate weekly four flights on Chittagong-Kolkata route. United Airways is currently operating from Dhaka to Chittagong, Jessore, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar, Barisal and Kolkata.
The company is planning to start flight operations on Dhaka-Kathmandu, Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur, Dhaka-Dubai and Chittagong-Bahrain routes shortly. The one way fare for Chittagong-Kolkata is Tk 9125 and return fare is Tk 17547 (inclusive of all taxes)
However, as a part of its inaugural offer the airline is providing one way fare at Tk. 6950 (inclusive of all taxes). Weekly four flights to Kolkata will operate from Chittagong on Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday, and depart from Chittagong at 1630 hrs. This operation is undoubtedly an achievement for the country's aviation industry, as United Airways is the second private airline to have gained this prestigious clearance. Apart from Kolkata the company also has plans to expand its operations to other regions of India.
