Airstrips to be expanded, developed with technical expertise: Kapur

Srinagar: Chief Secretary S.S.Kapur has said that all mini-airstrips in Jammu and Kashmir will be expanded and developed with the help of technical expertise in a time-bound manner. He said the facilities at two major airports at Srinagar and Jammu will be further augmented.
The Chief Secretary said this while chairing a high-level meeting of officers called to review the functioning of airports in the State.
The meeting discussed in detail the extension programme of airstrips of Leh, Kargil and Kishtwar, besides working out feasibility for developing new airstrips at hilly areas of Surankote and Rajouri.
Chairman, Airport Authority of India, V. P. Aggarwal assured full cooperation to the State Government for taking up the work on these airstrips and also for providing necessary technical knowhow in this regard.
Kapur asked the concerned authorities to prepare a proposal for inclusion of one MIG-17 helicopter for the State in the Tribal Sub-plan which would be forwarded to the Centre for necessary funding. He said other states have also procured the helicopters from the Centre under the same scheme.
