Citizens fight for flight

Jamshedpur: Regular visitors to Calcutta are fuming as the newly launched MDLR flight to the metro may be withdrawn from May 25.
MDLR launched its Calcutta flight on April 15, but soon cancelled the route acting on the directives of the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA).
For now, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries has written to the DGCA demanding that services be resumed.
“We have written a letter to the DGCA requesting that the services to Calcutta be resumed. Though there is another flight operating, the charges are too high, especially for industrialists and businessmen who travel to Calcutta frequently,” said Alok Chowdhary, the vice-president of the business panel.
A copy of the letter has also been marked to the Prime Minister, Governor of Jharkhand and the Union ministry of civil aviation. The MDLR flight is now connected to Chandigarh, New Delhi, Ranchi and Jamshedpur. MDLR’s charge for the Calcutta flight was a nominal Rs 1,200. Other airline offers tickets at a price of Rs 3,500-Rs 6,500.
The MDLR authorities, too, have approached the DGCA and are waiting for approval.
