Dabolim airport: PWD sends proposal to acquire land

Panaji: While the Public Works Department (PWD) has already sent its proposal for acquisition of about 20 acres of land in front of the Dabolim airport as part of the airport's expansion plans, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) must deposit 25% of the amount towards land acquisition. The south Goa collector will then forward the land acquisition proposal to the revenue department within a week.
These were part of the deliberations of the review meeting chaired by development commissioner and acting chief secretary S K Srivastava on Monday regarding the proposed development of Dabolim airport. South Goa collector Mihir Vardhan, senior PWD engineers, special land acquisition officer (Mopa) were present for the meeting.
Sources said additional land is required at Dabolim airport for ancillary facilities like cargo complex for which the process is already on with the south Goa collector. Another about 16,000 square metres of land is required for relocating the existing residential quarters of the staff of the Airports Authority of India. Section six of the land acquisition procedure has already been issued for this land, sources said.
The expansion plans also require the shifting of MPT power cables and the shifting of PWD water lines from the airport premises and these issues were discussed with PWD engineers.
