DGCA issues revised flight safety initiatives during monsoon to all airlines

New Delhi: In view of the approaching monsoon season Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a revised Operations Circular on Monsoon Operations to all airlines yesterday. Besides referencing the ALAR (Approach & Landing Accident Reduction) tool kit devised by Flight Safety Foundation, this circular includes several risk reduction advisories, and incorporates new concepts in training, e.g. ‘Special Purpose Operational Training’ by way of high-fidelity flight simulation which is already in use with public air carriers followed by real-time assessment checks by Flight Instructors and Examiners.Minimum equipment requirements in wet and rainy conditions have been made more stringent to increase equipment redundancy in respect of Antiskid, Weather Radar, Thrust Reversers, Tire Grooves, wipers and several such items impacting touchdown on wet runways.
