IA flight gets scary buffeting

Hyderabad: Passengers of an Indian Airlines flight from Hyderabad to Tirupati had a miraculous escape this afternoon after it developed a technical snag. For fifteen minutes, the 100-odd passengers experienced what they called ‘‘the worst-ever air turbulence.’’ Thanks to pilot Capt RA Kanga’s presence of mind, they landed back at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad safely.
Flight IC 942, Delhi-Tirupati-Hyderabad, was to leave for Tirupati at 12.45 p.m. But for some reason, it took off at about 1.15 p.m. After travelling for half-an-hour, it developed a technical snag which resulted in turbulence.
‘‘For about 15 minutes, the aircraft tossed up and down causing panic among the passengers.
This is my worst-ever experience,’’ said A Chandrasekhara Reddy, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, who was travelling in the same plane. Endowments Minister J Ratnakar Rao was also among the passengers.
Indian Airlines PRO Krishnan said IA’s technical team was inspecting the aircraft.
