In such times, we should not go for luxury travel: Patel

Mumbai: In the face of a financial crisis in the aviation industry, airlines will have to be in the Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) frame of mind, said civil aviation minister Praful Patel. In a candid interaction with the media on Tuesday, Patel said that when the cost of operation is high, one has to "stay lean.'' "In such times, we should not go for luxury travel. After all, its a quick journey and decent services matter to passengers flying short distances,'' said Patel.
The minister cited the example of full-service carriers like Kingfisher and Jet Airways which have adopted the LCC model to rationalise costs and to woo more passengers at a time when fewer people are flying. "These airlines have brought down their fares and have come up with new brands to cut costs,'' he said, adding that the LLCs are in a better shape than full-service carriers.
