New Delhi: India added 16 new helicopters to its civil register in the first quarter of calendar year 2009, nearly double the amount added during the same period in CY2008 according to new data released by the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The leap in registrations is dominated by the addition of five Hindustan Aeronautics ‘Dhruv’ helicopters during March. Robinson secured second position for the quarter with three R-44s added, two in January and one in March.
Other new additions in first quarter CY2009 comprise two Bell 407s, two AgustaWestland A-109s, one Eurocopter EC-120, one Eurocopter EC-155 and one Eurocopter AS-350BC. A single Sikorsky S-76C was also added; the first new Sikorsky built aircraft added to the Indian civil registrar in more than 14 months.
India added a total of 41 new helicopters to its civil registry during CY2008, with 25 manufactured by Bell. The Bell 407 series dominated with 13 of the type added to the registry, followed by eight Bell 412s.
