Hyderabad: National Security Guard (NSG) is seeking 22 acres of land on the premises of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport apart from nearly 1,200 acres in Chandanvelli village of Shabad mandal in Ranga Reddy district.
NSG, which will set up a regional centre in Hyderabad, has nearly decided on 1,200 acres of land in Chandanvelli village after the officials visited two other places in the surrounding Ranga Reddy district.
The 22-acre land has been sought on the airport premises for setting up offices, store rooms and other facilities. According to NSG officials, it will help them rush to any part of the state or neighbouring states like Karnataka, Chattisgarh and Orissa immediately.
The NSG wing, which was raised by the Cabinet Secretariat under the National Security Guards Act, 1985, has written a letter to the Ranga Reddy district collector to provide about 1,200 acres land in Chandanvelli village and 22 acres at the airport.
However, the revenue officials reportedly told NSG officials that airport is under the control of the Airports Authority of India and have to get allotment from the authorities concerned. The international airport is spread over nearly 5,400 acres.
The NSG centre proposal came up after the Mumbai terror attacks last November. The Union home ministry proposed to set up three regional centres in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
The Union home ministry asked the Ranga Reddy district officials to provide land to set up the NSG unit and scouted for land close to the international airport.
