Pilot discharged in abetment of suicide case

Mumbai: A sessions court has discharged Arjun Menon, a pilot with a private airlines who was charged by the Mumbai police in June 2008 for abetting the suicide of airhostess Sucheta Anand.
Menon had been pleading his innocence ever since the time the 25-year-old woman committed suicide in a Juhu hotel on June 7, 2008. However, the police booked him under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for "abetment of suicide'' on June 12, 2008. Consequently, Menon spent 19 days behind bars.
Sleuths relied on the SMSes Menon and Anand had exchanged before she ended her life to suggest that there was an argument between the two. However, Menon pleaded all along that the differences between him and Anand were at most a lovers' tiff and he could not be blamed for driving her to suicide on the basis of those. A sessions court finally agreed with him and Thursday's discharge order means that he has been given a complete clean chit with the court holding that there wasn't even enough evidence to put him on trial.
