TFS launches India’s first airport catering services

Travel Food Services (TFS), a company formed by Sunil Kapur, Managing Director, Blue Foods and Amit Thacker from the Thacker Group, has initiated operations as India’s first company to provide airport catering services. Presently, the company is in negotiations with airport developers across the country. It aims to establish its presence at airports in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Goa, Chandigarh and Pune. Other airports will be considered depending upon the number of flights operating from them.
Speaking exclusively with Hospitality Biz about the same, Kapur states, “This was a previously untapped segment in India and the potential for organised players is tremendous here. Besides, airport catering is quite different from food court catering and requires positioning at the right location, with the right brands.” According to Kapur, business turnover at the airport is high with the ‘grab and go’ model operating predominantly. Thus, the company will consider the development of quick service restaurants rather than casual and fine dine concepts. It has created new brands for operation, like Stravagante, a high end restaurant and bar concept; Spice Bazaar, an Indian fusion cuisine outlet; Noodle Wok, an Oriental cuisine outlet; Caféccino, the coffee shop and Chaatwala, an outlet serving Indian street food.
All the stores will be owned by the company. TFS has earmarked an investment of Rs 120 Crore for its first two years of operations. It will obtain the finance through internal accruals. It aims to operate about 5000 sq m of space within the same period. TFS has targeted a turnover of Rs 100 Crore by 2010-11.
