Work on Mohali int'l airport to speed up after polls

Mohali: Work on the upcoming international airport project at Mohali is set to speed up after the elections. According to a recent communication,
apart from finalizing names for board of directors, Punjab, Haryana and Airport Authority of India (AAI) would deposit the amount required for the joint venture company immediately after the elections.
Earlier, Union civil aviation department had sought permission from the Election Commission for formation of a joint venture company that was deferred till the elections are over. As the election process would be complete by May 13, preparations are now afoot to give the ambitious project a big push.
According to government sources, according to the communication from Union civil aviation department, total number of members to be inducted into the board of the company would be doubled. Earlier, five members were to be inducted including one from Punjab, one from Haryana and the rest from AAI and civil aviation department. But now, two members each would be inducted in the board from Punjab and Haryana and the same would apply to AAI and Union civil aviation department.
Sources said from Punjab, secretary housing department and secretary civil aviation would be proposed as members. After the elections, composition of the board would be finalized to speed up the airport project.
