5 hotel cos line up Rs 1k-cr investment near Delhi airport

New Delhi: Five hotel companies, which had won bids to construct hotels around the New Delhi airport, have committed to making an initial investment of over Rs 1,000 crore for the venture. Hotel companies Accor, Interglobe, Bird Group, Lemon Tree Hotels and Saraf Hotels had won the bids for constructing 2,000 hotel rooms from the Delhi International Airport (DIAL), which is in-charge of modernising the domestic and international airports in the Capital.
The hospitality firms, which took possession of the land in the beginning of this month, will set up these hotels in an upcoming Aerocity near the airports. For instance, French hotel company Accor and its Indian partner Interglobe will be building three hotels in the Aerocity.
“We will start building the first one later this year. Our first hotel will be under our economy hotel brand Ibis that will be built with an investment of Rs 180 crore,” said Accor Hotels India MD Uttam Dave. The hotel will have 315 rooms. He added the company is still deciding on the other hotels brands that will be launched later.
Lemon Tree Hotels will be investing close to Rs 270 crore to build two hotels with a total of 500 rooms. One of the hotels would be a mid-market hotel under the Lemon Tree brand, while the other would be a budget hotel under Red Fox brand.
Similarly, the Bird Group will be investing close to Rs 300 crore to construct 230-room hotel under a new five-star hotel brand called Dusit D2.
