ACCI demands rationalisation of air fares

Port Blair: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) today urged the Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines to rationalise air fares between Port Blair and Chennai in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.
In a letter to the Chairman, Kingfisher Airlines, ACCI general secretary G Bhaskar said the airlines reduced the number of flights in this sector which needs to be increased, considering the rush of vacation passengers during June-July apart from other category of travellers. The ticket prices, quoted by the airlines, are extremely high ranging from Rs 9,000 to Rs 22,000 for one way between Port Blair and Chennai. ''This high pricing is not only hurting the people of these islands, but also directly affecting the development of tourism in the islands,'' he added.
Talking to UNI, Mr Bhasker said the rational airfare in Port Blair sector should be in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000 instead of having very low rates for one side and very high rates on the other.
''This will be in the long term interest of Airlines and also help the people of these islands who need to travel in the last minutes,'' said the General Secretary.
