AI to take unions into confidence on ground-handling JV: CAJAF

Mumbai: Air India has assured its employees' unions that they would be taken into confidence before the national air-carrier goes ahead with its proposed ground-handling joint venture with Singapore Air Transport Services (SATS).
"(Air India's) Chairman and Managing Director, Arvind Jadhav, has assured us that the airline will have an open mind on the issue (joint venture with SATS) and not proceed without having detailed discussions with the us (unions)," Civil Aviation Joint Action Front (CAJAF) Convener, George Abraham, said.
The Front had a meeting with Jadhav yesterday on the issue, George said, adding, "Jadhav was quite receptive to our view-point."
CAJAF is the umbrella union formed by the employees of Air India and Indian (erstwhile Indian Airlines).
The union is agitating against ground-handling contracts being awarded to foreign companies and National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) joining hands with such a foreign company in a joint venture if it wants to continue with ground services.
Meanwhile, CAJAF held a peaceful demonstration at the Mumbai airport on Friday against a SATS delegation which was on a visit to the airport.
