Mumbai: Mumbai International Airport will soon select a new consortium for ground-handling as the contract awarded to the group led by Menzies has been cancelled for violation of concession norms.
"We have already floated tenders... many parties have approached us. We hope to select one among the bidders in the next few days," a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson said here.
He, however, refused to share other details.
The tender process was necessitated after MIAL cancelled the contract earlier awarded to consortium led by Menzies Group for third party ground-handling. It was cancelled for breach of contract.
The agreement with another consortium led by the Celebi Group and NAS remains in force. UK-based Menzies group had chosen Cambatta Group and Bobba Group as its partners.
MIAL in a letter dated May 18, had informed airline operators that, "on account of breach of terms and conditions of the concessions, we have terminated the concessions granted to the consortium of Menzies Group, Bobba Group and Cambatta group."
The airport operator was in the process of making suitable arrangements for the appointment of a replacement for the said consortium, the letter said.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had last year announced a new ground-handling policy from January this year. It, however, had to defer the implementation by six-months due to the opposition from unions and airlines.
