User trials for chopper corridor at Mumbai from next week

Mumbai: User trials for a dedicated chopper corridor at Mumbai airport are likely to commence from next week, an official source said here on Sunday.
"We are going for user trial from next week as part of the last stage of implementation of a dedicated air-corridor for chopper operations at the Mumbai Airport," the official told PTI here.
During the trial, officials from Airports Authority of India (AAI), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air Traffic Control (ATC) would fly on the route to observe the practical problems, if any, and modify them accordingly before the final implementation, he said.
If the trial goes well, the corridor should be functional in the next 2-3 months. The industry officials had a meeting with Civil Aviation Ministry Joint Secretary Arun Mishra and other stake-holders recently in this regard, the official said.
Civil helicopter industry in the country has been demanding segregation of helicopter and aircraft traffic, particularly at Mumbai and Delhi airports, to deal with congestion.
