New Delhi: Passengers of an Air India flight had a harrowing time inside the aircraft as its AC didn't work for about 40 minutes after the flight developed a technical snag at the IGI Airport on Friday evening. The glitch in its power unit was detected five minutes after it rolled out and had to return to the parking bay for repairs.
Airline sources said that IC 839 from Delhi to Hyderabad rolled out of the parking bay at 5.15pm but a technical error appeared in its auxiliary power unit (APU). As soon as the pilot realised this, he brought the aircraft back to the parking bay. "If the APU malfunctions, a deficiency in the levels of oxygen can take place and the error had to be rectified immediately,'' said an official.
While engineers tended to the aircraft, passengers, who were still on board, had a miserable wait as the APU failure also affected the aircraft's air conditioning. The 136 passengers on board sat in the heat for almost 40 minutes before the aircraft was finally repaired.
Repairs were concluded just before 6pm and the flight took off for its destination at 6pm, delayed by over an hour.
