Aircraft hit pig on runway

Nagpur: A major mishap was averted on Friday evening when an incoming flight hit a stray pig on the runway of city’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. Kingfisher flight IT-2802 Indore– Nagpur-Hyderabad with almost 56 passengers were onboard hit the pig upon landing at about 8.45 pm. The plane had to be grounded at Nagpur as a result. Prakash Mirpuri, spokesman of Kingfisher Airlines, said three pigs darted across the main runway just when flight IT 2802 had landed. The aircraft made contact with at least one of the animals. The commander of the aircraft immediately slowed down and after satisfying himself that plane had not suffered major damage, taxied towards the parking bay. “All guests deplaned normally but the plane had to be grounded,” he added.
All 56 passengers and 4 crew on board the ATR 72-500 aircraft that operated the incoming flight from Indore are safe, Mirpuri said. A relief aircraft along with an engineering crew arrived from Hyderabad to take the passengers to Hyderabad.
