Vadodara: A tyre of an Indian Air Force aircraft burst while landing at Vadodara's Harni Airport on Friday. This blocked the runway for about three hours, delaying all morning flights from the city. Airports Authority of India (AAI) and IAF officials informed TOI there was no casualty and damage due to the incident even as the IAF has begun an inquiry.
"The incident took place at 8.30 am when the IAF Avro the transport aircraft-landed at the runway. This blocked the runway," an AAI official said, adding that later the aircraft was removed from the runway to clear it for landings and take offs.
IAF officials said though the tyre under one of the wings of the aircraft suddenly burst. Due to the closure of the runway for hours, departures of three flights Indigo (two) and Jet Airways (one) were delayed. The Indigo's flights were for Mumbai and Delhi while Jet Airways was Mumbai-bound. A total of seven flights, including three for Delhi, operate out of Vadodara airport on a daily basis.
