India needs Deccan 360, says founder

The launch of Deccan 360 fills a “massive gap” in India’s logistics network “that needs to be plugged,” according to Capt. G R Gopinath, founder and managing director of the new cargo airline.
“While I was running Air Deccan, on several occasions we had to grapple with the problems of a very restrictive supply chain system in India,” he said in an exclusive interview.
“We did have international cargo airlines like Fed Ex flying into India, but they were only connecting Indian metros to other cities in the world, and domestic carrier, Blue Dart, whose services are limited to the top seven metros. There was no logistics service provider or cargo airline which could connect smaller towns and cities within India.”
Starting the business during a global recession, he said, does not deter him since India’s need for logistics services is clear.
