Offers to help AI pouring in, but with a rider

New Delhi: Air India may not be the first choice of a traveller but few PSUs evoke the kind of sentiments that the airline does.
So, there is growing interest among people, both in India and around the globe, wanting to help turn it around, provided they are made board members.
From chartered accountants to head hunters, from international consultants to former chief executive officers of private sector hospitality and car rental firms – all are willing to help the ailing airline.
Good, except all want to be made board members.
Indians settled abroad are also willing to do their bit for the Maharaja with several offering their services on a “not for profit” basis.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation receives between 5 and 10 letters a day from these professionals and others keen to become members of the soon-to-be-constituted airline board. As a member of the board, a person is entitled to business class passage and also a stay in a five-star hotel when travelling on work. The board member would also be paid a small honorarium.
The Government, the majority shareholder in the airline, has indicated that the board will be reconstituted and is keen to bring in top-level professionals.
