US national caught with gun at airport gets bail

Chennai: A US national, Larry Selimeyer, who was arrested at the Chennai airport on June 11 for being in possession of a gun and live ammunition, was granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court on Friday.
Justice M Jeyapaul, who passed the order after the submissions of advocate V Kannadasan, asked Selimeyer to surrender his passport and other travel documents to the police, and to appear before the police every Monday. He shall deposit Rs 25,000 to the credit of the crime number as a security for his appearance before the court to face the trial.
Considering the fact that Selimeyer had expressed his readiness to stay back in India till the completion of the trial, justice Jeyapaul asked the police to complete the investigation and file a chargesheet before the competent court within 15 days.
Selimeyer came to Chennai for treatment at a private hospital here, and he underwent a hip surgery on May 29. Justice Jeyapaul recorded that during Selimeyer's entire stay in India, he had not committed any offence with the weapon and the ammunition.
