AI to pay August salaries on time

New Delhi | Mumbai: Responding to reports of hunger strikes being held by some unions, Air India on Tuesday said it would disburse the August wages/ salaries to its employees on the last day of the month, as is practice.
Employees owing allegiance to the Aviation Industries Employees Guild, along with 13 other unions of Air India, on Tuesday declared a relay hunger strike to protest the earlier decision of the carrier’s board to cut performance linked incentives of employees by 50 per cent to curb costs. At 20,000, total membership of the striking unions is nearly two-third of the carrier’s 31,000 employees. Meanwhile, the trade unions held negotiations with the airline’s management, including CMD Arvind Jadhav, on issues including payment of PLI and other allowances.
The carrier’s management has proposed to merge PLI with the basic pay of various sections of employees and match them with the scales and allowances recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission and in accordance with the Department of Public Enterprises guidelines.
