Mumbai: A conciliatory meeting between Jet Airways pilots and the management is scheduled before the Labour Commissioner for August 31. The airline has stated that its pilots are "legally bound not to go on strike'' while the process of conciliation is on.
In a press statement, the airline said the union, National Aviator's Guild (NAG), is under legal obligation not to proceed on strike while the conciliation proceedings are in process under sections 21 (1) and 22 (2) of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947. Since Jet Airways is a public utility service, any contravention of the Act would attract legal action, it added.
The airline's pilots had served a 14-day notice to the management after the latter terminated two senior commanders for forming the union, which has 645 pilots as its members.
