Indian Fighter Jets Scramble To Intercept Air France Passenger Jet

Amritsar: India's Ministry of Defense announced Thursday that its military planes had intercepted an Air France passenger plane that was flying without broadcasting a correct identification code.
An Indian Airforce MiG 29 fighter jet intercepted Air France flight 164 after it was picked up by IAF radar southeast of Amritsar in the Northern Sector flying at 37,000 feet.
However, the plane was not in communication and it was not broadcasting a proper "Squawking IFF code" to identify it as an Air France commercial passenger plane, India's government said in a statement Thursday.
After the fighter jets scrambled, the Air France crew corrected the lack of communication and began properly broadcasting identification of the plane to Indian authorities.
