JetLite looks to Boeing to repair damaged craft

Kolkata: JetLite is banking on aircraft manufacturer Boeing to come up with a solution for the ill-fated 737-800 aircraft, which was damaged after a step ladder crashed into it on Thursday.
Airline officials have already started a routine inquiry against the loaders who were on duty when the incident occurred.
"We have sent Boeing a report and are also in touch with them. We will start work on this aircraft once we get a response from them," said a JetLite official. Once engineers of the Indian airline operator complete their task, Boeing will conduct its own inspection before it issues a fit-to-fly certificate. The plane, though, can be airborne only after civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) carries out its own checks and gives the final go-ahead.
"Although we are not sure about the timeframe and cost, it seems it will take at least a fortnight and a few crores before the plane can become airworthy again," the JetLite official said.
On Thursday, after the JetLite aircraft flying on the Guwahati-Kolkata-Mumbai sector reached the city, a step ladder had rammed into the plane and damaged the horizontal stabilizer, which controls the vertical movement of the aircraft during a flight.
