AI-IA launches global hunt for COO

New Delhi: The Air India-Indian Airlines combine has issued a global hunt for getting a COO. The airline has invited applications for the Mumbai-based position as part of top management team for a three-year period, extendable for another two years. The COO, who could be either Indian or foreign, will oversee the overall operations including engineering, inflight, commercial and report to CMD Arvind Jadhav.
“The incumbent should have a minimum experience of 15 years... He should be in the age group of 45-50. Preference would be given to those who are in the aviation industry or in the past had turned around performance of a large organization with manpower strength of at least 10,000,” AI ad for the post, which invites applications till October 16, 2009, says.
AI’s hunt for the COO has come just in time when the airline is preparing to receive equity infusion to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore over the next three years. Sources say while the airline wanted the entire amount this year, it is likely to get about Rs 2,000 crore by the end of this calendar year. The aviation ministry has begun work on preparing the cabinet note so that the equity infusion can be cleared at the highest level of government.
