AI plane catches fire at Mumbai airport, passengers evacuated

Over 200 passengers onboard a Boeing 747 Air India flight from Mumbai to Riyadh got a scare when one of the plane's engines caught fire on Friday while taxying in Mumbai airport. Passengers reported noticing sparks from the engine after which the plane was grounded and all passengers evacuated via slides. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
Although the exact age of the plane could not be immediately ascertained, it is clear that the Boeing 747 belongs to an old Air India fleet.
Firefighters were still trying to douse the flames on Mumbai-Riyadh AI flight 829 at the time of filing this report. The 213 passengers had been taken back to the terminal to await another flight, airport authorities said.
