After the civil aviation secretary and the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) slammed the airlines for cashing in on the non-availability of Jet Airways flights, air-fares dropped on Saturday. The fares for the most-travelled sectors dropped to anywhere between
Rs 4,500 and Rs 6,000, as compared with Friday's Rs 12,000 and Rs 18,000.
TOI has been reporting about the exorbitant fares being charged by other airlines. The DGCA, on Thursday, asked the airlines to get back to their September 6 fares. Unmindful of the order, the airlines had continued their profit-making spree, forcing the government to step in. The fares dropped on Saturday after all airlines met the civil aviation secretary MM Nambiar.
