New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition by low cost carrier JetLite seeking relief in a tax evasion case and directed the carrier to pay Rs 260 crore, including interests to the government.
A division bench comprising Justice A K Sikri and Justice Valmikin Mehta dismissed Jet Lite's petition after observing that the adjudicating officer of the service tax department had already passed an order and the matter had become infructous.
On July 27, the adjudicating officer directed Jet Lite to pay Rs 260 crore, which included a tax of Rs 128.52 crore, a penalty of the same amount and interest.
Jet Lite had challenged proceedings of the service tax directorate in the beginning of this year.
