Airlines fares could go up by as much as 20-25% by mid September, Sanjay Aggarwal, CEO of SpiceJet, said, adding that demand is likely to pick up in four–six weeks. “The peak season will be able to move fares up,” he said.
According to Aggarwal, the beleaguered airline industry was currently charging below cost, with load factor — the average occupancy in a flight — ranging near 70%.
“The current quarter will be bad compared to the previous one. If the current situation continues, we may not break even this quarter,” he said.
