Jet Airways, travel agent to pay up

Chandigarh: UT consumer forum on Monday directed Jet Airways (India) Limited, and travel agent Chopra Foreign Travels to refund Rs 1,750 to the complainants, Sector-20 resident Vijay Laxmi (52) and her daughter Priyanka (23), apart from Sector-44 resident Roopa (42) and her children Kartik (15) and Mehak (12) and also to pay them Rs 10,000 each for causing harassment along with Rs 2,500 as litigation cost.
According to complainants, they had collectively booked e-tickets through the travel agent, who claimed to be having the agency for the airlines, to depart from Srinagar and arrive at Jammu in June 2008. They allegedly reached Srinagar on June 9, 2008 for their vacations. However, on June 12, 2008, while at Srinagar, Vijay Laxmi and her daughter developed severe food-poisoning. Since their condition was not stable, Vijay Laxmi’s husband LR Roojam requested for and also got a passage booked on the same flight through a separate e-ticket. To board the flight, complainants reached Srinagar airport on June 13, 2008.
The queue of passengers seeking boarding passes on the flight was quite long and by the time it was their turn, the boarding counter was closed. They immediately met the flight attendant and sought an explanation, but to no avail. Despite their insistence, the complainants were left in the lurch, due to which they had to manage six passengers tickets, including that of Roojam, in Indian Airlines.
